Terms of Service

The terms that govern your use of Knov.ai and its tools.

Acceptance

By using this site, the OARS standard and schema, the assessment and generator tools, the directory, the public API, or the MCP server (together, the “Service”), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The service

Knov.ai maintains the Open Agent Readiness Standard and related tools. Assessment scores, generated manifests, and verification outcomes are provided to help you understand and improve your site’s agent-readiness. They are informational and provided without warranty of any particular result.

Acceptable use

  • Only submit URLs you own or are authorized to assess.
  • Do not use the Service to attack, overload, probe, or gain unauthorized access to any system, including by submitting URLs that target infrastructure you do not control.
  • Do not attempt to circumvent rate limits, authentication, or other technical controls.
  • Do not scrape, resell, or redistribute the directory or API beyond what the documented interfaces permit.
  • Do not submit unlawful, infringing, or misleading content.

API keys

API keys are issued to identified parties and must be kept confidential. You are responsible for activity under your key. We may rate-limit, suspend, or revoke keys for abuse or violation of these terms.

Directory & verification

Listing and verification are at our discretion and may be modified or removed. Verification reflects our assessment at a point in time against the standard and is not a guarantee of any business’s conduct, security, or fitness. You may request removal of your entity from the directory at any time.

AI agents & automated access

Knov.ai publishes a public API and an MCP server so that AI agents can use the Service directly. These terms govern that automated access in addition to human use.

  • Permitted. Agents may read the directory, look up a domain’s status, retrieve the OARS schema, and submit a domain for verification, through the documented API and MCP interfaces, within the published rate limits.
  • Prohibited. Do not use agents to exceed or evade rate limits, to bypass the domain-ownership challenge on the verification endpoint, to submit domains you do not own or are not authorized to represent, to call undocumented or non-allowlisted methods, or to scrape, resell, or redistribute the directory beyond what the documented interfaces permit.
  • Read-only tool surface. The MCP tools we expose are read-only and the available methods are server-side allowlisted; the only state change an agent can initiate is a verification submission, which is then reviewed by a human before any listing or verified status is granted. We do not act on agent-supplied instructions beyond the documented behavior of each endpoint.
  • Responsibility for agent actions. If you operate an agent that accesses the Service — directly or on behalf of a user — you are responsible for its requests and for compliance with these terms, exactly as if you made each request yourself. Calls made under an API key are the responsibility of the keyholder.
  • No reliance for autonomous decisions. Directory data, verification status, and assessment output are informational. You are responsible for any decision an agent takes based on them, and the disclaimer and limitation of liability below apply in full to automated use.

Intellectual property

The OARS specification and schema are published for implementation and reference. The Knov.ai name, site, and software are owned by us. You retain ownership of content you submit and grant us the rights needed to operate the Service, including processing submitted URLs and content.

Disclaimer & limitation of liability

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Knov.ai is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
